We have an exciting opportunity in our department for someone with a passion for computationally intensive research looking to use their skills in High Performance Computing to make an impact on research computing support.
We seek to develop a Research and Innovation programme that adopts and drives best practice. The service will facilitate the advancement of complex research by providing leading edge computing services. This is an exceptional opportunity to contribute to a Research and Innovation support Service dedicated to supporting world-class research at a fantastic University. This role is aimed at advancing our capability to meet the demands associated with developing and enhancing our provision of research computing services with an emphasis on research software and research computation facilities including High Performance Computing (HPC).
You will provide user and application support for research computing platforms supported by IT services including personal work stations, virtual machines and HPC facilities. You will provide support to researchers across a range of faculties using a range of tools for data analysis and computational modelling including ANSYS/FLUENT, ABAQUS, MATLAB and a number of in-house developed codes. You will support the Sheffield Advanced Research Computing Facilities. A specific service the team provides is support for running and developing parallel applications for HPC clusters using distributed and shared memory techniques, we also support the use of graphical processing units (GPUs) for visualisation and computation. Support is not restricted to local HPC facilities but is extended to virtualisation and container services sometimes making use of public cloud resources. This is a particularly interesting time to work with the team as we start to develop support over a wide range of areas including big data analytics, machine learning.
