Software Engineer - Sportsbook

What you will be involved with as a Software Engineer at SG Digital:

· Work as part of a self-organising SCRUM team to develop new features and functionality for large scale betting websites

· Practice Test-Driven Development (TDD) to produce robust, clear, polished code

· Design solutions that are modular, scalable, extendable and portable

What would make you the Software Engineer we are looking for:

· Proven experience in a similar position

· Working knowledge of one or more major programming languages (including but not limited to Java, C/C++, Python, Perl etc.) and interest in learning other coding languages

· Knowledge of database design (any vendor)

· Some level of familiarity developing on Unix/Linux would be nice

Almost all of the projects we work on are some form of web application and therefore as a full stack developer, you'll be working on everything from complex SQL queries to React components and everything in between.

We're a client facing business and so you will need to communicate with customers over various channels including face to face. Customer relationships are very important to us and keeping customers informed of progress and helping them to define the requirements are just as important, if not more so than the code itself.

Software development for us isn't just about writing new code, we support systems that we've written for many years after development on them has completed so you should be kind of person that gets just as much job satisfaction from fixing bugs or adding features to existing projects as you do from working on greenfield projects. 

We work remotely yet we collaborate a lot so you'll be expected to help others to complete their work and seek help from others when you need it too. This extends to an ongoing commitment to learning, with old and new technologies willingly learned as necessary to perform well in the role and new knowledge keenly shared with your colleagues.

In the first 12 Months you will:

• Help Hussle grow further by taking ownership of the development of our customer facing Website and Business facing websites using PHP/MySql and Sass
• You will work closely with the Product Support team to continuously improve the experience on both the eCommerce Website and Partners website.
• Train and mentor more junior engineers in the team.
• Write tests for your own code and increase test coverage for our applications.
• Work with the rest of the team to improve code quality through refactoring and code reviews.
• There will be the opportunity to be involved in further development of our AWS Infrastructure, DevOps culture and release procedures.
• Work on big and small projects.
• Show leadership as part of an inclusive, reciprocal engineering culture, where everyone wants to improve and ego’s are left at home.

Our customer facing and business websites are built on Zend Framework Using PHP, MySql, Sass and React.js, all of this is hosted on AWS using RDS Aurora, EC2, Elasticache, S3 and Lambda built with CloudFormation.

We are looking for a developer who has extensive experience working with modern PHP frameworks (we are using Zend Framework), experience in Javascript and Javascript Frameworks (React Preferable) would be beneficial but not necessary to apply.

Working as part of VIOOH’s SRE teams strong DevOps culture, the Site Reliability Engineer will help support and build VIOOH’s
strategic platform. The SRE team has developed a environment based around AWS, Kubernetes and
templated deployments and is actively working to evolve this into an automated, self-healing system
that can match the pace of VIOOH’s growth.
The SRE team drives VIOOH's products to a cloud-native approach, working closely with the
application development and product teams. In addition, the SRE team works as a third-line of
support to application and 24x7 operations teams to resolve issues in a fast but resilient manner.

Responsibilities:
● Work side by side with other engineers to shape VIOOH’s infrastructure and development
strategy
● Provide best practice knowledge and support across infrastructure-specific elements of
VIOOH’s stack, including AWS, Linux system administration, Kubernetes and Terraform.
● Generate efficient, quality deliverables, with clear supporting documentation to enable the
24x7 operations and application teams to provide first- and second-line support
● Decompose high-level business requirements into clear, deliverable activities that we can
track through our “Scrumban” system
● Work closely with our offshore, 24x7 support team to hand-over deployed service for them
