The role
We are looking for a full stack developer with a keen interest in engineering RESTful APIs, DevOps, and developer tooling to join our small, ambitious team in the heart of Edinburgh city.


Our existing functionality is built on PHP but we are transitioning to modern javascript and node, with most greenfield projects being written in the latter, backed by the NoSQL database MongoDB.


Our new API is defined in OpenAPI 3.x (formerly known as swagger) and being wrttien in ES7+ javascript, node LTS, and Fastify (a lightweight, high-performance, express-esque framework).


We run our infrastructure on AWS and are moving towards fully automated deployments of applications/services with the code as infrastructure tool that AWS provides (CloudFormation). We also make use of a lot of other AWS services such as the Elastic Container Service, Lambdas, and API Gateway.


This would be a great role if you’re interested in working with an extensive AWS stack and building scalable applications/services using modern tooling and workflows.


Responsibilities

  • Maintaining Appointedd’s existing functionality and building new functionality.
  • Maintaining, improving, and documenting Appointedd’s AWS infrastructure.
  • Maintaining, improving, and documenting Appointedd’s developer libraries and tooling.
  • Designing and building scalable solutions.
  • Creating intuitive user interfaces.

  • Work with project teams to build and maintain automated deployment processes
  • Encourage common code ownership of the deployment stack amongst project developer

  • Maintain web applications on Linux servers in a production environment and use automated tooling to configure new servers.

You’ll have:

  • Experience configuring and managing Linux servers for serving a dynamic website
  • Experience debugging a complex multi-server service
  • Comfortable with configuration management tools: at least one of Salt, Chef, or Puppet, Familiarity with network protocols - TCP/IP, HTTP, SSL, etc. and have Scripting or basic programming skills

Senior DevOps Engineer wanted to join us on a 3 - 6 month contract in London.

In this role you will be a hands on, experienced contributor in our rapidly expanding DevOps team. You’ll be implementing bleeding edge technology, optimising our processes for our growing scale - our focus is high speed, high saturation operations.
