"ANOTHER Software Development advert in Leeds…" am I right?

If so then I can't say I blame you. The internet is full of copycat adverts promising the dream yet ultimately failing to deliver on it.

However, this advert is different. This advert is as honest as honest can be. So let's start by cutting the fluff...

This role isn't easy. You will be working amongst the regions greatest and will be the 'go to' guy on the team for all technical issues related to Software Development. You will be working closely with the Architects and Project Managers to ensure smooth delivery of all projects; this isn't a walk in the park.

This role isn't 100% hands on. Of course it isn't. Every Senior/Lead role involves some maintenance and some functional aspect such as mentoring and/or coaching.

The working hours aren't always 9 to 5... This shouldn't come as a surprise! Any role that promises the same working hours regardless of project deadlines is an out and out fabrication. What this does offer, however, is an excellent degree of flexibility and occasional home working. Just not when a project needs to be delivered the next day!

Have is still got your attention?

Good. Ok then... now for the good stuff:

1. You will get exposure to the latest Open Source technologies.

2. You will be well paid... up to the £65,000 mark to be exact.

3. You will get tailored career progression with opportunities for both Architecture and Management positions in the future.

4. You will have fun. Seriously... the culture there is great. They are collaborative, enthusiastic and welcoming. You will fit in well and feel part of something bigger from the get-go.

If you want to apply for this role then you are thinking along the right lines. Having knowledge and experience of the following would certainly help your application...

  • Writing good quality code using Java (ideally 8)

  • Strong experience of Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery and Agile practices using GIT, Bamboo or Jenkins

  • Design patterns and frameworks such as MVC or Spring

  • Solid experience with website development and a good understanding of HTML, CSS and JavaScript

  • Web services and APIs ideally using REST

  • A full continuous delivery pipeline using Bamboo and Git

  • Automation of tests, deployments and repeatable tasks

  • Continuous improvement, keeping it simple and developing the team

  • Cross-functional agile teams, who own their products and operate in a DevOps environment

  • Familiarity with modern principles/methodologies such as Agile, Test Driven Development, and a quality first mind-set for writing tests using techniques such as TDD and BDD.
