The Team

The team is a core group of creative software engineers within DeepMind Research who work to provide an innovative research workflow. We are a growing team that build tools, infrastructure, libraries, frameworks and services to enable and accelerate the next generation of research ideas.

Research Platform plays a critical role in the mission of DeepMind in multiple ways. We’re looking for people who are passionate about building products to help enable research at scale. A highly creative team, where our end users sit in the same building allowing for quick iterations and continuous improvement.

Non-exhaustive examples of the types of work in the team:

  • Platform for testing and evaluating ML algorithms in various simulated environments
  • Systems for easily logging, storing, searching, and analyzing large quantities of experiment data
  • Bespoke internal project management systems for organizing and accelerating AI research at scale
  • DevOps for our massive computational resource pool (consisting of TPUs, GPUs, and CPUs)

The Role

We are keen to hire hardworking software engineers experienced in C++, Python and/or Java who are interested in building and enhancing platforms to help research flourish. You’ll join an inspiring and creative environment, working on ground-breaking technology with high potential to impact and accelerate all of our research.

As a member of the platform team, you will focus on creating tools, infrastructure and products to cultivate the ideal environment for conducting leading AI research. This platform will be used to enable research projects and associated work (papers, code, experiments) in a way that supports the researchers and engineers and the program management team.

  • You will design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance the platform for supporting our multiple research programmes
  • Create interactive user interfaces to help researchers visualise and understand AI and research outputs
  • You will gather requirements from all partners: researchers, managers, program manager.
  • You do not require Machine Learning experience for this role

About you

Minimum qualifications:

  • You hold a degree in computer science, software engineering, mathematics, physics or equivalent experience.
  • You have good communication and social skills.
  • You have proven experience with C++ and/or Python.
  • You have strong knowledge of algorithm design, computer science fundamentals and experience employing this on scaled software projects
  • A clear interest in our mission and aim to contribute through innovative software engineering practices to tackle AGI

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with implementing multi-threaded/concurrent/distributed software systems.
  • Experience with database systems and other data storage systems
  • Familiarity with large system software design and development.
  • Familiarity with systems that handle large scale compute clusters
