We’re looking for experienced data science / ML engineers to join our newly formed data science team, where the opportunities are endless – at the moment our focus is on modelling conversions, real-time bidding in display advertising, campaign optimisation and recommendation systems, but there are opportunities in other products which involve NLP and auto-agents.

Responsibilities:

  • Apply your expertise in data science to understand how our users interact with our products and translate data-driven features which create value for our customers
  • Develop various production grade models on large-scale datasets by utilizing advanced statistical modelling, machine learning, or data mining techniques
  • Research and develop data science infrastructure and services, whilst leveraging our platforms and libraries

The Opportunity

Highly motivated individual required to join team in the design and development of IT Systems & Workflows for Big Data Genome analysis.

An exciting IT opportunity has become available to further develop our IT systems and analysis workflows in the Cancer, Ageing and Somatic Mutation (CASM) Division. The CASM IT team provide support to scientific staff to help in the Group’s aim of increasing our understanding of cancer and ageing.

Specifically, the role will support the design and development of our compute infrastructure to allow our analysis workflows to be run in a distributed, adaptable and scalable environment. This position would be ideal for someone who enjoys working in a team environment to develop IT solutions for large scale data analysis. These solutions need to be efficient, flexible and under continuous integration to ensure reliability. The design and implementation of the user interfaces to these resources used by the scientific staff need to be intuitive and robust. There are many training opportunities to advance technical skills and personal development.

We are looking for an individual who enjoys working in a supportive multi-disciplinary team environment to help solve complex IT issues which will ultimately aid our understanding of cancer and ageing in humans.

The role can be performed flexibly in line with the Wellcome Sanger Institute’s flexible working arrangements.

The CASM Support IT team has successfully developed a suite of algorithms to analyse genetic variation in cancer genome data. This includes software to detect tumour genetic variation (e.g. single-base substitutions, structural rearrangements, copy number changes) and the ability to annotate the resulting variants and mine the data for interesting patterns and signatures (https://github.com/cancerit).

The CASM Division has led the way in the systematic analysis of cancer genomes by using the human genome sequence and high throughput mutation detection techniques to identify somatically acquired sequence variants/mutations and hence identify genes critical in the development of human cancers (http://www.sanger.ac.uk/genetics/CGP/).
