Becoming a Technical Author with Retain International:

The Technical Author will be working closely with the development, commercial and marketing teams to produce high quality technical documentation for software products including user manuals, administrations manuals, quick reference guides, training manuals, presentations and application help text. Engineer Experience is part of the Core Engineering Organisation, within the Chief Technology Office (CTO), which focuses on reducing friction / improving the end-to-end experience for our engineers at JPMorgan Chase & Co.


This role requires a passionate and highly technical individual with experience of end-to-end software development at JP Morgan that spans elements of plan, build, deployment and supporting an application in Production. 


You will work on the core Engineer Experience workstreams which are Journey Mapping and Friction Point Management.  A data-driven approach to Journey Mapping allows the team to capture the end-to-end experience as an engineer fulfils all of the steps required to achieve their goal.  Working with engineering community representatives, you will create current and future states of the experience and create quantifiable opportunities that will improve the experience, enabling product owners to effectively prioritise these within their backlogs.  Friction Points are a way for the engineering community to raise systemic issues that are impacting engineer productivity, delivery times or software quality.  You will help to facilitate & influence how these systemic issues are mitigated by working directly with those who are impacted by these issues and the product owners who are responsible for the tooling/process.


You will work with a wide range of groups, stakeholders and senior leaders spanning all Lines of Business and Corporate Functions to influence and drive the vision of a best in class Engineer Experience.



·         Scope, plan and build end-to-end Journey Maps for core engineering capabilities factoring all high-level steps required for an engineer to achieve their goal

·         Work with the engineering community as part of journey mapping activities to derive key, quantifiable opportunities for improvement

·         Influence the prioritization of journey opportunities with the core toolchain product owners and other senior stakeholders

·         Review and triage Friction Points, working with the reporter and resolution team to ensure regular updates are posted back to the engineering community

·         Build and iterate research and development projects for newly emerging workstreams


·         Proven experience of developing software within JP Morgan through multiple phases of the SDLC

·         Ability to communicate with and influence a wide range of stakeholders

·         Strong critical thinking skills with a desire to challenge the status quo as appropriate

·         A self-starter with the ability to lead streams of work independently

·         Understanding of modern engineering practices including DevOps and Agile

·         Familiarity with developing for a variety of target platforms including on-prem, cloud and container orchestrators
